My Portfolio

I want people to start to believe in photography again, ask questions about what the image is about and to be amazed at how it was created. I believe my images have inner meaning which the viewer can relate and connect to; images that capture your eye when you see something there that you don't expect. I believe the purpose of Photography has changed from its recording to numerous creative outcomes, which I believe these days can sometimes be discredited because of new programs such as Photoshop. In these selective photos, I have chosen to show this in a surreal yet simplistic way to engage but not to confuse the on-looker, using a range of types of experimentation and techniques. Some of my photos show this in a slightly more complex yet simple idea by using film. I feel the audience tend associate trust with film compared to digital and the images made are more inspiring, I believe because they have been physically created by my own hands. I have also created my own lens in order to create images that stand out to the audience because what they are seeing would have never been seen before because it was made by hand. Again a personal touch adding to the feeling of the photograph; engaging and inspiring the viewer. I have also included digital images which have not been digitally manipulated to reinforce the trust with audience, images of objects/people that they should recognise but have been framed , physically edited (makeup), captured a moment (using just camera settings), reflections and light , sometimes making the shapes clearer by editing them into monochrome, in order to show ordinary objects in a new light. The images, as a collective, show the audiences something they don't expect to see, by challenging expectations, questioning ideas for themselves such as: beauty, identity. similar shapes, and can be trusted once more.
